OGC Nice: Hugo Lloris ends his international career

Latest News

The Nice native ends his legend with the blues, 15 years after starting it.

At 36 years old and after playing 145 matches with the French team, the native of Cimiez called it quits this Tuesday, January 10. In an interview with L’Équipe, Hugo Lloris announced he is ending his international career, which began in November 2008 during a friendly against Uruguay.

“I don’t want to wait for the moment where I start to do a bit less. I prefer to leave while still at the top, after having helped the French team reach the World Cup final. I can’t have regrets after playing 145 matches, seven major tournaments, and winning a World Cup: I feel privileged.”

The goalkeeper trained by OGC Nice will forever mark the history of our national team with his records and crucial performances in the pursuit of French titles. He is considered by many as the best French goalkeeper, and one thing is certain: he is the Nice native with the most illustrious career in blue.

It is Mike Maignan, the AC Milan goalkeeper, who will likely take over from Hugo Lloris in the French goalposts.
