In an interview with Le Figaro, the mayor of Nice discussed the recent events in the southwest district of the city. Once again, he criticized the State’s inertia in addressing this issue.
On April 3rd, in a video posted on Twitter by Eric Ciotti, several hooded and armed men can be seen in the Moulins district of Nice. Following the publication of this particularly shocking video, reactions from the municipality were logically expected. Christian Estrosi responded on Twitter, denouncing the “Government’s inertia” and announcing that he was going to “take matters into his own hands with an action plan to protect our city.”
In recent days, the implementation of several measures from this action plan has been announced by the municipality. Nevertheless, the mayor of the Riviera capital remains angry about the State’s involvement, which he deems far too weak. In an interview with Le Figaro, he used strong language directly criticizing the lack of action from the Interior Minister Gรฉrald Darmanin:
โDespite my repeated calls to the State, we still do not get what we expect. Occasional operations are launched, but nothing permanent to put an end to a situation that continues to worsen… The Interior Minister’s primary duty is to work with the Mayors. Mr. Darmanin, I feel like we are being mocked!โ
During an appearance on RTLโs morning show, Christian Estrosi detailed one of his requests to the State: a CRS company stationed 24/7 in the district.
Perhaps this media coverage will provoke reactions within the government; the Nice official is demanding actions “within 8 days.”
