The City of Nice and the metropolitan area are implementing an SMS alert system in case of a major crisis to protect residents as quickly as possible.
According to the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis, the experience gained from the two major crises in 2020 – Storm Alex and the Covid-19 crisis – highlighted “the necessity to create a significant telephone database allowing, in case of an alert, for immediate notification through a simple SMS.”
Implemented by the environmental health and risk management agency, this free service will allow residents to be notified by SMS in case of major crises. Three types of crises have been identified: environmental (storm, seismic shock, flood …), health, and security (attacks, fires …).
For now, this alert system only concerns Nice before it is later deployed throughout the entire territory.
