Passionate about the marine environment since childhood, he decided in his thirties to literally change course. Thus, he dedicated himself entirely to photography and diving. He set off on a world tour to fully exploit his talent for photography. Upon his return, he gained recognition. The awards followed. In 2015, he received his first “Gold Diver” award at the World Festival of Underwater Images. The following year, he was named National Geographic Photographer of the Year for his “Sardine Run” shot. This award, particularly esteemed, represents for him his “greatest victory” and the fulfillment of this dream come true. Today, he and his entire team set off on a catamaran for the “Pélagos” expedition. Greg Lecoeur concludes his speech with a smile, saying “I am more comfortable under the water, with the fish!

The “Pélagos” Expedition

The “Pélagos” expedition is both artistic and scientific, aiming to discover or rediscover the lush biodiversity of the Mediterranean. The expedition references the Pélagos Sanctuary. This sanctuary is a 87,500 km² marine reserve of unique richness worldwide. An exceptional natural heritage but threatened by human activities, it undeniably requires enhancement and protection. Thus, the establishment of a Protected Marine Area at the heart of the Pélagos Sanctuary was the subject of a consultation this past June 9.

Greg Lecoeur’s expedition is part of the “We are Méditerranée” program. This project embodies a desire to revisit and enhance the marine biodiversity of the Mediterranean. It revolves around different missions, with the aim of taking stock of the current marine heritage.
