The Nice Donation House is hosting the 14th edition of the Red and Black Blood Donation until August 19. On August 14, for the launch of the operation, a delegation from OGC Nice was present to participate in the collection.
This Monday, a new edition of the blood donation drive began at the Nice Donation House in partnership with OGC Nice. For the occasion, a delegation from the club was present. Didier Digard, Cédric Varrault, and several players from the youth academy and the women’s team participated in the drive by donating their blood. The other part of the delegation distributed flyers toward Place Masséna. The objective: to bring as many people as possible to the collection facility.
“It’s a very simple gesture that costs absolutely nothing and saves lives. We share these values with the club. We try to encourage as many people as possible to come here to donate blood,” emphasizes Didier Digard. The former Gym coach is no stranger to this: “This is the third or fourth time I’ve donated my blood. It’s important to lead by example. We know we can reach an audience,” he confides. Today, in Nice, only 2% of the population who are eligible to donate blood actually do so.
“We have more needs than donors”
The PACA region increasingly needs blood. “We have large hospitals, we consume a lot. We have many needs compared to other regions. Today, donors are mobilizing less. We have more needs than donors. It’s complicated to mobilize donors in Nice and the PACA region,” explains Endréa Ktorza Buggiani, development officer at the Nice Donation House.
The partnership helps to spotlight the cause and raise awareness among some of the Nice population who might not consider or dare to donate their blood.
Several conditions must still be met to donate blood. “One must be an adult (between 18 and 70 years old), in good shape, in good health, and weigh at least 50 kg,” explains the development officer. After a consultation with a doctor, allow approximately an hour to complete your donation.
The Nice Donation House (3 rue Galléan) welcomes you from Monday, August 14, to Saturday, August 19, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, except on August 17 from 11 am to 6 pm.
