Festive and sporting events: who should pay the additional cost of the requested security measures?

Latest News

The alarm raised by the LGBT association, which, on the occasion of last night’s Fête de la Musique, reported its inability to cover the security costs demanded by the Prefecture to organize its traditional event, has found a receptive audience.

Patrick Allemand and Paul Cuturello, municipal councilors from the opposition group “A Different Future for Nice,” will present a motion to the Municipal Council tomorrow to “support associations in organizing festive events.”

The text of the motion expresses a unanimous desire to “revitalize the city by resuming […] festive events.”

The proposal is the “creation of a Municipal Security Intervention Fund intended to assist associations in meeting new security requirements.”

Unofficially, the two councilors have estimated the fund amounts to 200,000 euros per year.

Additional funding could be requested from the State and other local authorities.

Given the reality, the request is not unfounded. The obvious reality is that associations do not have the means to cover excessively high security costs.

The risk is that only commercial events generating revenue or those directly organized by the municipality will be able to continue to take place.

We will see in the public session if the municipal majority will be open to a proposal from the opposition or if other options will be proposed.
