Disappointment for Nice’s Diane Parry, whose journey comes to a premature end in Monastir despite an intense battle.
Facing Ukraine’s Yulia Starodubtseva (24 years old, ranked 130th in the world), the player from the French Riviera lacked clarity in decisive moments, largely due to her opponent’s solidity. Dominant on her first serves, Diane Parry, however, lacked options on her second serves. Very effective in return, Yulia Starodubtseva was also solid on her own serve. By saving six out of seven break points in the first set, she managed to maintain the lead gained in the fifth game. She claimed the first set (6-4).
The scenario repeated itself in the second set. Diane Parry lost her service in the third game and never succeeded in breaking back, unlike in the first set. Despite six new chances to equalize in the final game and saving three match points, the verdict was clear. After 2 hours and 9 minutes of battle, the player from Nice was defeated in two sets (6-4, 6-4). Logical, although an equalizer would probably have changed the course of the match.
