On the occasion of its third edition, the Water Lover Challenge set new records! Thanks to a collection that took place all over the world, participants collected more than one million cigarette butts in just ten days.

The Water Lover Challenge, which ended yesterday, managed to collect a total of 1,000,992 cigarette butts. This is equivalent to over a billion liters of water protected from pollution, marking a new record. In 10 days, 2,896 participants, as well as numerous cities and countries, including Switzerland, France, Belgium, and several African nations, contributed to this collection.ย

Despite unfavorable weather, this collective effort managed to save the equivalent of 400.4 Olympic swimming pools worth of water. The event will return on the same dates in 2025, with the aim of mobilizing even more participants around the world and raising awareness among smokers about the impact of cigarette butts on the environment. โ€œWe will do everything possible to mobilize as many people as possible in Europe, or even worldwide. Beyond this voluntary collection effort, it’s important to make smokers aware that a cigarette butt does not belong on our streets, parks, countryside…,โ€ explains Noam Yaron, the sponsor of the WLC 2024.ย
