The Nice players left a strong impression by winning the ninth edition of the women’s international Torball tournament. It was held in Nice last weekend. Let’s look back at a journey marked by tenacity and team spirit.
The Albert Malatesta gymnasium welcomed teams from six European countries for this annual competition. Dortmund and Stuttgart for Germany, Graz for Austria, Laval and Nice for France, Bergamo for Italy, and Heidiland for Switzerland. After a friendly preparation, the Nice players began their journey with difficulty, losing (2-8) to Heidiland. But they quickly regained control by defeating Dortmund (6-4) and then Graz (4-1).
Despite a draw against Laval (6-6) and a defeat to Bergamo (5-8), they reached the semi-finals, which they won against Bergamo (4-2).
A Tense Final
In front of more than a hundred spectators, the final pitted Nice against Graz. The match was tight, with each team responding to the other’s attacks. The decision came in the last minutes, thanks to a precise shot by Sandrine Filippini, sealing the Nice victory at (5-4).
Emotions were palpable during the award ceremony, with representatives from the city and numerous partners in attendance. This victory is another step in the promotion of Nice’s disabled sports.
The ANICES association, organizer of the event, now turns its attention to the men’s Torball D1 French championship, scheduled for January 18, 2025. It’s another opportunity to promote this sport and bring an ever-growing audience together around disabled sports.
