The artist from Nice unveiled this Wednesday “Madeleine,” his very first album. Twelve tracks that revisit the greatest French songs, brought up to date. Yann Muller shared his thoughts on this important moment in his life.
Facing Nice, from the heights of the Radisson Blu hotel’s terrace, the ambiance is warm. Yann Muller invited family and friends for a first listening of his album “Madeleine.” A pop-electro tribute to French chanson, his DNA, his madeleine of Proust. He joyfully shared his thoughts with Nice Premium on this moment.
“Madeleine,” that’s the album’s name, linked to Proust’s madeleine. Have artists like Dalida, Céline Dion, and others marked your childhood?
Yann Muller: “Yes, I made an album of twelve tracks, titles that marked me when I was young. It’s a heritage my parents passed on to me. It was hard to make a choice, but these are the tracks that touched me, like when we went for walks. I had other tracks by artists, but those I chose are the ones closest to my heart.”
And the album cover, did you already have the idea in mind before creating it?
We already had the idea: I wanted to make these French tracks from my childhood, so I wanted an image of myself as a child, with this idea, this desire to make music.
Was there a moment when you realized it was time to make this album?
I have already done quite a few remixes of French music, some of which have been successful. Like those of Dalida, Michel Delpech for example. So I wanted to continue with this idea. It’s a universe that I like. The album is the continuation.
In your music, there’s a certain summer warmth, like to make people dance on the beach. Is that a conscious effort on your part?
Absolutely! That’s it! I wanted to make an album where people could dance from the first to the last song. That it is a continuity. That everything flows. With people dancing all night to these tracks, with my musical warmth. My music is very solar, very summer, with sounds of guitars, saxophones, pianos. It’s a work of summer musical color.
Is there another element that characterizes your work and this album?
For me, it’s sharing, always. The idea of making people happy and putting a smile on their faces. That’s what I’m most looking for.
Is there a DJ, a French one for example, who has inspired you or still inspires you?
I have many, but there’s one who has inspired me a lot. It’s The Avener. He’s from Nice, I grew up with him and he had great success ten years ago. His evolution, his behavior, and his career, all of that inspired me because I saw myself in him. Today, I’m very happy to be friends with him, maybe have the chance to collaborate. I would certainly like that.
This summer, I imagine you have many dates to satisfy your fans?
A lot of dates. In the region, all over France. Whether in the Var or elsewhere. From Brittany to Belgium. I was in Alsace two days ago. It’s a tour of France. But it allows meeting many cultures, new regions. So I’m having a blast.
And is there a place in the world where you would like to perform later?
My ambition is to continue touring in France because it’s really this French heritage that excites me today. I want to keep France at the center of my career. Honestly, I play in unexpected villages with incredible heritage. Sometimes there are castles, vineyards, lots of things. And I take immense pleasure in playing in these places. For now, France fascinates me. I’m not really looking to travel. The idea is to be close to people.
Being close to the public to give them the show in a certain way…
Yes, the idea is to share. Together. I’m very smiley, always trying to make people happy above all, put them at the center of the party. It sings, it dances, and it’s very festive. Every day, I’m excited to get up, take the car, and put on a show. I’m very happy with what is happening today.
