The Alpes-Maritimes Department and the Maralpin SMIAGE have just released the second issue of the InfoEau06 newsletter. This quarterly document, produced as part of the departmental Water Observatory, provides a detailed overview of the water resources and aquatic environments in the area.
The second issue of the InfoEau06 newsletter is available. This resource, accessible online, aims to inform about the hydrological and ecological status of the department. It relies on verified data provided by several partner institutions, including the OFB, Mรฉtรฉo-France, DREAL, and the Water Agency.
Launched by the Department and the Maralpin SMIAGE, InfoEau06 centralizes this data through a dedicated platform. The quarterly published bulletin is one of its dissemination tools. It allows everyone โ institutions, local authorities, citizens โ to consult key indicators such as precipitation, river levels, the state of groundwater, or aquatic biodiversity.
A regular overview to monitor water resources
The latest issue reviews the situation of spring 2025. It notes that precipitation has been higher than normal, leading to satisfactory replenishment of watercourses and surface aquifers. The Loup, for example, shows a high level approaching summer. However, other areas require vigilance. This is the case for the Cagne valley, where deep aquifers show signs of weakness.
The analysis also focuses on the quality of aquatic environments, by monitoring diatoms. These microalgae are used as biological indicators because their presence or absence reveals the health status of the waters.
Additionally, the bulletin reports on several projects carried out in the field. It mentions enhanced monitoring of wetlands in departmental natural parks, a study on the impact of climate change in the Var and Estรฉron basins, and the renewal of the “Wild Rivers Sites” label. This is accompanied by an educational program called “Seeds of Wild Rivers”.
Finally, InfoEau06 is part of a broader approach. It is part of the Department’s environmental strategy, centered around the GREEN Deal and the SMART Deal. The former aims at ecological transition, while the latter relies on data sharing for more efficient management.
Charles Ange Ginรฉsy, president of the Department and the SMIAGE, summarizes the initiative: “The Departmental Water Observatory fulfills a vital mission: providing independent, reliable, and accessible scientific information for all. In the context of increasing water stress, this is an absolute necessity to make informed decisions. InfoEau06 embodies the excellence of the Cรดte d’Azur: a unique platform in France that turns data into solutions for our territory. Itโs the SMART Deal serving the GREEN Deal!”
The bulletin is freely accessible on the InfoEau06 platform.
