A fire broke out this Sunday, 6th July 2025, in the evening, in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, in the Alpes-Maritimes. The fire started on a wooded hill located in a populated area. The incident ignited in the area of the road to Saint-Jeannet, which connects the town to La Gaude.
Shortly after 10 PM, a thick cloud of smoke was visible in the sky. Flames were seen above the houses, causing concern among some local residents.
Firefighters from the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) quickly intervened. The wind was gusty in the evening, complicating operations.
By midnight, the emergency services reported that the fire was “currently contained.” Although the spread was then controlled, teams remained mobilized. About thirty firefighters were still on the scene at that time.
The department on alert
The exact circumstances of the fire’s start are not yet known. No casualties have been reported. It remains unknown if any homes were threatened or if evacuations were necessary.
Verifications should take place in the coming hours. The authorities may provide more precise information on the origin of the fire.
This new outbreak occurs amidst a period of severe drought and weather conditions conducive to fires in the department.
This outbreak happens as the authorities have placed several forest massifs in the department under heightened alert. For this Monday, 7th July, the massifs of Esterel and Tanneron are classified as at “very severe” fire risk. Access is prohibited for the day. Other areas, such as the coast or the mid-country, are also under surveillance, with restrictions on work hours. The prefecture reminds that forest fire prevention involves adhering to a few rules, including the prohibition of fires near woods, attention to cigarette butts, and respecting signposted closures.
