They were supposed to arrive during the day, but the fastest ones were early. The first yachts of The Ocean Race Europe race arrived this morning in the port of Nice. They set sail on Tuesday at 3 p.m. from Cartagena as part of the third leg of this race. An arrival that was planned for later in the day, but weather conditions were favorable.
The winner of this leg is the French yacht Biotherm, one of the two French boats, at 7:12 a.m. this morning. Less than 30 minutes later, the Swiss boat Team Holcim-PRB took second place. The podium for this leg is completed by the Italian team Allagrande Mapei Racing. They earn seven, six, and five points respectively for the overall ranking.
The yacht Paprec-Arkรฉa, of French skipper Yoann Richomme, arrived nearly two hours and ten minutes after the winner. It was ahead of Team Malizia and the yacht Be Water Positive. Team Amaala finished in last place in this leg. This leg did not count for many points for the ranking. Indeed, this leg was not the most complex of the course.
A French team leads the ranking
Thanks to its victory this morning, Team Biotherm extends its lead in the overall ranking, with more than 11 points ahead of its runner-up. The second place is highly contested. Two yachts are neck and neck. Team Holcim-PRB and Team Paprec-Arkรฉa are tied with 23 points each. The French yachts are, so far, in great shape.
The next and penultimate leg starts this Sunday afternoon. The yachts will leave the Cรดte dโAzur at 5 p.m. to reach Italy and the port of Genoa. It is worth noting that the skipper Yoann Richomme mentioned that it will probably be the most complicated leg due to the light winds in this area.
