IpoLogo.gif Ipomedon has launched an internet service that makes it possible to prevent, regardless of the connection location (hotel, wifi on a public hotspot, internet café, university, office) the interception of connections.

“The idea came to me when someone close to me had problems at work. She wanted to visit sites where pregnancy was discussed without her employer making the connection, she was too afraid of being fired.” confides M. Faucauneau, creator of this system

Information is encrypted between the browser and the servers of the Nice-based company at a level similar to online banking encryption without requiring any software installation.

No information can be intercepted on this “protected tunnel” between the client’s browser and the ipomedon server. The hotel, internet café or employer cannot know where the user is browsing. It is impossible for the hotel owner to know where the client goes on the internet or for the manager to know what website their client is surfing. The service is compatible with PC/Mac and Linux.

“I wanted something simple, fast and easy to use for a layman. I found nothing existing. So I designed it.” adds M. Faucauneau, a student in Antibes who sees through this a way to finance the studies he is pursuing at the Lycée Léonard de Vinci.

The very young Nice-based company is quickly considering positioning itself on new geographical markets and further optimizing its service.

ipomedon.jpg Nice Première: Frédéric, tell us about Ipomédon?

Frédéric Faucauneau: Ipomédon is an internet service that prevents your internet usage from being spied on. The system (which does not require installation) encrypts data between your browser and Ipomedon’s internet servers. No one can listen in on what happens on this secure “line”. You can therefore read your email, surf the internet without fear that your company’s network administrator or the person in the hotel room next to you will know where you are going.

NP: How did this idea to protect email come about?

The idea came to me when someone close to me had problems at work. She wanted to visit sites where pregnancy was discussed and read her webmail where she was talking about it with friends without her employer making the connection, she was too afraid of being fired. I searched the internet to see if such a service existed and I was disappointed, each time something was wrong (too slow, too complicated, didn’t really protect…). So I decided to create it according to my specifications… Plus, she worked within an IT consulting firm, so in terms of computer security, it had to be impeccable: no software installation, strong encryption and since she was a layman, something easy and pleasant to use.

NP: How does your protection system work?

It is intentionally very simple to use. The user subscribes via Paypal (secure payment). They have access to a form where they insert the internet address they want to reach, that’s all. We also offer them articles on how to secure mobile phones.

NP: What is its cost?

The monthly subscription costs about 6 euros (from three months, we offer promotions), a discovery subscription exists for one euro for 2 days.

NP: Who are your potential customers?

The potential of such a service is great: all employees who want to surf the internet without their boss knowing where they go, all people using computers via wifi (the hotel for example), all internet café users… The application easily adapts to new languages.

NP: Why did you choose Nice to set up your structure?

For two reasons, because I am studying in Antibes, and because in my opinion, you have to be close to your customers and here, the number of people working in front of a computer is greater than elsewhere.

NP: Finally, how will you market your offer?

I have not planned a major advertising campaign due to lack of resources. I am counting on the “word of mouth” effect which always congratulates a good product with, it is true, a downside, it takes more time. I hope to quickly conclude agreements with companies and hotels but that is not essential for me at the moment.
