Last weekend, a land and underwater cleaning operation was held at Rauba Capeu, organized by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Tourism Office. Forty-two volunteers and services from the City and the Metropolitan authority participated in this collective action in favor of the coastline.
The operation is part of the “Year of the Sea,” in connection with the upcoming United Nations Conference on the Ocean. At Rauba Capeu, on April 5, participants collected approximately 550 kilos of waste. Among these, 440 kilos were removed from the sea.
On the beach and in the water, 42 volunteers answered the call, alongside municipal and metropolitan services.
This operation was followed by a categorization of waste. It aims to better understand the nature of waste found on the Nice coastline. For the OTM NCA, this initiative demonstrates a clear commitment: to make tourism a sustainable lever, compatible with environmental preservation.
“Tourism is a wealth for our territory, but it also has an impact on the environment”, emphasizes the Tourism Office. The challenge is significant: combining tourist appeal with ecological responsibility.
Richard Chemla, Pierre-Paul Leonelli, Rudy Salles and Jean-Sébastien Martinez were present. They praised a mobilization marked by solidarity.
This action is not isolated. It is part of a broader strategy. The OTM NCA affirms its commitment to act across all its business sectors to support the transition towards sustainable tourism.
A support fund has also just been launched. It will support associations carrying out projects in favor of tourism that respects people, the environment and the local economy.
