Debates, workshops, screenings and exhibitions will punctuate the week of March 4-10, 2026 in Nice on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day. Several cultural venues and public spaces will host these initiatives open to Nice residents.

March 8 marks each year the International Day of Women’s Rights and contributes to equality between women and men and helps strengthen women’s rights. In Nice, a specific program is being rolled out from March 4, 2026. The announced actions focus on prevention, awareness-raising and highlighting women’s journeys.

Testimonies, cinema and public space

The week begins Wednesday, March 4 at L’Artistique, 27 boulevard Dubouchage, with “Portraits of Women Committed to Women’s Rights,” in partnership with the Masséna bookstore. The meeting will begin at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free, subject to availability.

Under the title “As Long as There Are Women …”, the meeting offers testimonies, life stories and discussions around professional and personal journeys. Writings and life choices form the central focus of the afternoon.

Among the speakers are the Deputy Mayor, responsible for Combating Discrimination, Women’s Rights, Humanitarian Actions and Cooperation, as well as several personalities from the cultural and media world. Writer and screenwriter Simonetta Greggio participates in the discussions. Historian and writer Martine Gasquet, former Director of Culture for the City of Nice and the Mediterranean University Center, first female deputy in Nice, is also announced. Moderation is provided by Christophe Thoreau. Journalist and correspondent Dorothée Olliéric, sponsor of the event, participates as guest of honor.

Friday, March 6, a stand “Ask Angela” will be set up on Place Masséna, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The initiative is presented to the public. A participatory collage workshop addresses the question of women’s rights. An exhibition of French female figures accompanies the initiative. Discussions focus on current women’s rights and different perceptions of equality, with a reminder of the regulatory framework.

The same day, a citizen screening is organized at the Pathé Gare du Sud cinema, 6 place Charles Pasqua, from 6:15 p.m. The film “Sarah Bernhardt, the Divine” will be screened by online reservation. The film traces the journey of an artist who defended women’s rights through her personal trajectory and professional choices. The figure of Sarah Bernhardt, theater actress and public figure at the turn of the 20th century, serves as the thread running through this evening.
