On June 8, 2026, Saïd Alliouane received a medal of recognition from the city at the gold level for his act of bravery. That day, he had saved a woman from the flames of an apartment on Boulevard Pasteur.

On June 4, 2026, a fire broke out in an apartment in the Pasteur district in Nice, resulting in the evacuation of three people, including a 70-year-old woman. The fire, which started in a second-floor apartment, generated significant smoke that alerted residents. The quick intervention of firefighters made it possible to control the disaster, secure the building, and prevent any spread, highlighting the importance of prevention and vigilance in collective housing. However, it was the intervention of a FRAP agent (Rapid Action Cleanliness Force), Saïd Alliouane, that captured people’s imagination.

Indeed, he climbed a building using a ladder to rescue a woman trapped in her apartment. He told France 3 Côte d’Azur: “when we reached the second floor [where the fire had started, editor’s note], we felt a suffocating heat. Three of us had to kick the door open. But when it opened, it created a draft. The flames were right in front of my face. We had to step back” but also: “people told me I was a hero, but I don’t see it that way. If she hadn’t survived, it would have been very hard for me.”

Saïd Alliouane: his courage rewarded

The Nice city hall therefore organized a ceremony on June 8, 2026 to honor the hero. The latter began with a thank you speech from Éric Ciotti: “I wanted on behalf of the city, on behalf of our city to express my gratitude to him, to express our gratitude […] Accomplishing this gesture requires courage but also values […] It is an act of bravery that deserves to be distinguished, recognized.”

Recalling the facts, the mayor said he immediately went to the scene when he learned the news. On site, after meeting with the firefighting teams, he was able to speak with Saïd. The latter then told him discreetly, referring to his heroic act: “if I hadn’t seen you, I wouldn’t have said anything.” The mayor of Nice also thanked the firefighting teams and police for their intervention that day, as well as the FRAP teams and the collection and cleaning service.

For his part, Saïd spoke with great emotion. He wanted to thank his family for the education he received. He added: “my second family is the FRAP […] What I did, I did with all my heart.” He then mentioned the recent loss of his mother and the fact that he believes he has accomplished his “mission“: “as they say, after that you can die peacefully.”

Thus this ceremony demonstrated that the courage of Nice residents holds great value for the city. In presenting the gold-level recognition medal to Saïd Alliouane, the municipality not only honored an exceptional act of bravery, but also highlighted the importance of solidarity and civic values in the face of danger. This powerful moment, shared between the deep emotion of the hero and the gratitude of authorities, reminds us that behind the responsiveness of emergency services, the spontaneous heroism of a resident remains a fundamental pillar of the Nice community.
