For her first grass court matches in 2026, Valbon native Fiona Ferro participated in the qualifications for the Wimbledon tournament, as her current ranking did not allow her to directly enter the main draw. Unfortunately, the French player was eliminated in the first round against Greet Minnen.
Fiona Ferro fails in qualifications and will not play in the Wimbledon 2026 main draw
The Valbon native Fiona Ferro is going through a difficult period since her title at the Oeiras challenger in late April. A month ago, she was eliminated in the first round of Roland Garros by Mirra Andreeva, the future tournament winner. Last week, she did not do better than a second round at the Brescia challenger tournament.
Currently ranked 187th in the WTA, Fiona Ferro had to go through qualifications to hope to reach the main draw of the 3rd Grand Slam of the season: Wimbledon. Unfortunately, her hopes were short-lived, swept away in less than an hour by Belgian Greet Minnen (195th).
The French player never really got into her match and was quickly overwhelmed by her opponent. The gap between the two players was mainly determined on serve. Very solid in this area, Minnen won 77% of the points on her serve and left only ten points to Fiona Ferro on her service games. The Belgian also hit three aces, while the French player committed five double faults. In rallies, Ferro suffered from a lack of consistency, with a tally of 20 unforced errors for only seven winners.
Greet Minnen will face Iryna Shymanovich in the second round of qualifications. Fiona Ferro, meanwhile, will likely return in early July to the challenger tournaments in Bastad, Contrexeville or Newport.
