Sarah Langan offers readers a disturbing psychological thriller where rumor quickly inflames the crowds. She creates a gallery of multi-faceted characters focusing mainly on two families: the Wildes and the Schroeders. Dissecting the personalities of each of Maple Street’s protagonists, she thus delivers a scathing portrait of a seemingly chic and perfect suburb of an American city. Her narrative is punctuated with fake press articles, published after the events, giving substance to the story, and alternates between multiple viewpoints, thus encompassing all versions.

The end of Maple Street begins with the appearance of the sinkhole, and if everything seems normal at first, we quickly realize that something is wrong in this residential neighborhood with perfect lawns and smiling neighbors.

Sarah Langan is American, The Last Days of Maple Street is her first novel translated into French, it was published by Fleuve Éditions last February in the new collection, Styx, by the publisher. She won the Bram Stoker Prize three times for her previous publications (not translated) in 2007 and 2009 for two novels, The Missing and Audrey’s Door, and in 2008 for The Lost, a short story, her name stands alongside that of Stephen King on the list of winners.

2026 inaugurates this new collection of fantasy and horror novels with five titles to be published each year by Fleuve. Ranging from psychological terror to pure slasher to body horror, the Styx collection, directed by Laurent Queyssi, highlights these stories through a recognizable graphic identity, created by Nicolas Beaujouan. This year, Anglo-Saxon authors will be in the spotlight but very soon, French authors will be added to the catalog of this new collection.
