The passage of the second stage of the Vuelta this Sunday, August 23, 2026 will severely disrupt traffic and parking in the Alpes-Maritimes. Crossing the department from east to west to connect to Manosque, many major road axes and A8 interchanges will have to close.

Twelve municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes will be disrupted by the second stage of the Tour of Spain this Sunday, August 23. The Vuelta peloton will enter the department around 12:37 p.m. via Èze. The riders will pass through Villefranche-sur-Mer, Nice, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Roquefort-les-Pins, Le Rouret, Châteauneuf-Grasse, Grasse and Peymeinade, before leaving the department via Le Tignet around 1:50 p.m.

Roads closed

Disruptions in the municipalities will begin in the morning. Traffic on the roads used by the riders will be prevented approximately one hour before their passage, then gradually reopened.

To ensure the safety of the event, traffic will be modified. The Metropolitan Route ( RM: editor’s note ) 6007 cannot be used from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., or even 2:30 p.m. depending on the municipalities, from Cap-d’Ail to Cagnes-sur-Mer.

In Nice, Pierre Mathis in the East-West direction will close progressively from 10 a.m. to be completely closed at 11 a.m. Full opening of the expressway is expected around 2 p.m.

The A8 will also be heavily impacted. Four key interchanges will be closed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

  • Villeneuve-Loubet: closed in the direction of Aix-en-Provence
  • Nice-West: closed in the direction of Italy
  • Monaco: closed in the direction of Italy
  • Laghet: closed in the direction of Monaco

Parking in Nice will be prohibited on the roadway and sidewalks between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. on: Avenue du Mont Alban, Boulevard des deux Corniches, Boulevard Bischoffsheim, Avenue des Diables Bleus, Rue Roquebillière, Boulevard Pierre Sola, Place de l’Armée du Rhin, Boulevard Jean Baptiste Verany, Traverse Monnet, Voie Pierre Mathis, Tunnel Ouest de la Voie Mathis, Avenue Giscard D’Estaing, Boulevard du Mercantour, M6007 in the direction of St Laurent du Var.

Public transport disrupted

Nice’s bicycle paths will also be off-limits from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Boulevard Cassin between Avenue Maïcon and Promenade Corniglion Molinier, Avenue Giscard d’Estaing between Boulevard du Mercantour and Avenue Paul Montel, Avenue Maréchal Lyautey between Traverse Malraux and Place Don Bosco, Place Don Bosco, Parvis de l’Europe, Boulevard Vérany between Parvis de l’Europe and Place de l’Armée du Rhin, Place de l’Armée du Rhin, Rue Roquebillière between Avenue des Diables Bleus and Boulevard Pierre Sola.

Buses and tram 1 will also experience significant modifications to adapt to the Vuelta. Between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., certain sections will be interrupted. Tram 1 will operate partial service between Henry Sappia and Garibaldi, as well as between Vauban and Pasteur Hospital. Stations between République and Palais des Expositions will not be served.

Bus lines 7, 8+, 9, 12+, 18, 19, 20, 21, 30, 33, 45, 54, 55, 80, 82, 83, 84 and 88 will experience diversions and relocated terminals to Vauban or temporary stops between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

For the municipalities of Saint-Laurent-du-Var and Cagnes-sur-Mer, routes and terminals will also be diverted, notably those of Cap3000, Collège Pagnol or Parking du Cros.
