AS Monaco Basketball is playing its future in Betclic Elite before the CNOSF. After the rejection of its appeal by the FFBB, the club must now convince during the conciliation procedure. In parallel, the project to take over the capital remains uncertain.
AS Monaco Basketball is entering a decisive week for its sporting and administrative future. French Champions 2026, the Principality’s club is currently not registered in Betclic Elite for the 2026-2027 season.
The DNCCG Management Control Commission had ruled a non-engagement at the beginning of August. The FFBB Appeals Chamber subsequently confirmed this decision. The Monaco club therefore appealed to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF), the final step before a possible favorable outcome.
The conciliation procedure should allow the various parties to examine the situation once again. However, the case is not solely about the financial guarantees of AS Monaco Basketball. The project to take over the capital is also a central element.
The change of investor complicates the timeline
The framework agreement concluded with Jamal Mashburn and Helen Holdings provided for an exclusivity period. This clause expired on August 19, 2026. Since then, Clayton Sport, an Andorran investment fund, has emerged as another potential candidate for a takeover with Ronaldinho as an investor.
This development comes just days before the hearing before the CNOSF. The change of project should in particular allow the club to present updated guarantees and the necessary documents to the relevant authorities.
The timeline therefore represents an additional difficulty. A new capital solution must be sufficiently documented to be examined as part of the conciliation.
The AS Monaco Basketball lawyer thus requested the postponement of the hearing to August 25. This request comes as the club must still clarify the structure of its future shareholding and provide the expected guarantees.
The week ahead could therefore determine the course of AS Monaco Basketball’s journey. A favorable outcome before the CNOSF would allow the club to continue its efforts to return to Betclic Elite. Otherwise, the sporting future of the 2026 French champions would remain deeply in question.
Yoan Makoundou leaves Monaco for FC Barcelona
In this uncertain context, the Monaco squad is also undergoing several changes. Yoan Makoundou, former center at Cholet Basket, is leaving AS Monaco after four seasons in the Principality.
The 26-year-old French international has signed a two-year deal with FC Barcelona. The new challenge in Catalonia should allow the center to revive his international career.
Makoundou joined Monaco in July 2022 from Cholet. After a spell in China in February 2026, the player returned to the Roca Team a few months later as an injured replacement.
The absence from the French squad gathering in August now makes way for a new objective. Performances with FC Barcelona could allow Yoan Makoundou to regain selection for France with a view to the 2027 World Cup.
Mike James and Jaron Blossomgame reunite with Team USA
The Roca Team remains also represented on the international stage. Mike James is among the twelve players selected by Team USA for the upcoming 2027 World Cup qualifying matches.
The American point guard will face Chile on August 27, then Colombia on August 31 in Washington. Jaron Blossomgame will also be present with the American squad. The former teammate of Mike James at Monaco will experience his first selection with Team USA on this occasion.
The two players had shared the Monaco jersey for four seasons. Mike James will then continue his journey with Anadolu Efes Istanbul, while Jaron Blossomgame will join Dubai Basketball.
For AS Monaco Basketball, the coming days will concentrate several stakes. The appearance before the CNOSF, the evolution of the takeover project and the movements within the squad must now take place within the same timeline.
