A few months after winning the French championship, AS Monaco Basket is facing a financial situation that could lead to bankruptcy. The professional club’s liabilities have now reached 27.8 million euros. The Monaco commercial court will render its decision on Tuesday, October 6.

The financial situation of AS Monaco Basket continues to deteriorate. During a hearing held Friday, October 2 before the Monaco commercial court, the court president, Alexia Brianti, indicated that the professional club’s liabilities amounted to 27.8 million euros.

This hearing comes only a few months after the French championship title won by the Roca Team against Paris. Excluded from French professional competitions for the 2026-2027 season, the Monaco club now faces a possible collective procedure.

The main debt concerns the 21.7 million euros paid by National Financial Support (SNF). According to the elements presented to the court, repayment of this sum could have been avoided if the professional team was admitted to Nationale 1.

The French Basketball Federation (FFBB), however, refused Monaco’s participation in this division. This decision weakened the club’s takeover project.

A judicial decision expected Tuesday, October 6

During the hearing, AS Monaco Basket requested a new postponement of the procedure. The club notably highlighted the appeal filed with the Paris administrative court concerning its sporting status.

Prosecutor Fanny Philibert opposed this request. For his part, the executive director of AS Monaco Basket, Oleksiy Yefimov, indicated that the professional structure still had 21 employees. A decision from the Paris administrative court is also expected during the month of October.

The Monaco commercial court ultimately stayed the case for deliberation. The decision will be announced Tuesday, October 6. A bankruptcy filing could then be declared, with possible liquidation of the professional structure.

The takeover project also appears weakened by the withdrawal of Swiss Montana A.G., presented as a private investor likely to provide 10 million euros per season. According to the elements presented around the case, this commitment is no longer current.

The summer was marked by several refusals concerning the sporting future of the Roca Team. The federal board refused its participation in Betclic Elite and Elite 2 on August 28. On September 1, Monaco was also declared ineligible for the Eurocup. On September 12, the Nationale 1 bid was then rejected.

The CNOSF conciliator recommended, on September 18, maintaining this decision. Three days later, Monaco requested admission to ABA 2 League. An appeal was also filed with the Paris administrative court against the FFBB’s decision.

On the sporting side, only the men’s Nationale 3 team of the association continues to compete. This amateur structure remains independent from the professional club.

The current situation contrasts with that of June. AS Monaco Basket had just won its third French championship title following its victory against Paris in the final. The 2025-2026 season had also ended with four national trophies.

A few months later, the future of the Roca Team’s professional structure now depends on the decision of the Monaco commercial court. October 6 will constitute another key deadline in a case marked by financial difficulties and successive refusals concerning the club’s continuation in professional basketball.
