This morning, the city of Nice paid tribute to the executed resistance fighters of Ariane, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Nice and France. A look back in images at this commemoration in the rain, attended by the mayor and other representatives.
In his speech, Christian Estrosi spoke about the bravery of the 23 resistance fighters executed on August 15th, 80 years earlier. Later, their names were recited followed by “For France,” to highlight more than just a local liberation. Herbs were laid in their memory to conclude the ceremony, to the sound of “La Marseillaise” orchestrated by the gendarmerie.
