It is with great pride, and a lot of humility before this immense actor, that the Théâtre de la Cité welcomes Jean-Claude Drouot for two exceptional performances of his show “Jean de Lafontaine, a free and libertine man”.
“I am a light thing and fly to every subject;
I go from flower to flower, and from object to object;
a vain noise and love have shared my years.”
Jean de Lafontaine
Met during the Avignon festival, nothing was certain given his overbooked schedule! And yet, with great kindness and a lot of attention, Jean Claude Drouot made it a point to participate with his presence in the adventure of the new Théâtre de la Cité.
In this “one-man show” where the actor fully showcases his talent, Jean Claude Drouot delights in portraying the famous fabulist and performs his licentious tales with delicacy.
Known for his legendary fables, Jean de La Fontaine also had a certain audacity, more playful, in the writing of his tales. Beyond his irony and finesse in his bestiary of humanity, the fabulist handled the French language in libertine tales, censored at the time. Jean-Claude Drouot puts all his talent at their service and reveals writings that sometimes turn the most enterprising debauchery into an innocent playful act. Here’s a play with ironic and melancholic musicality, which will ring in the ears of the most naive… and the most mocking as well.
"Musicality, finesse, irony, and melancholy of Jean de La Fontaine whose boldness in his tales curiously earned him relegation to the index, the fortunately temporary punishment of the 'Hell of the Classics.' Without excessive illusion on the bestiary of humanity, our fabulist, the unique and mischievous master of our language, also enjoyed charming boudoir recreations, an accomplice in our less confessable frolics. Let us restore all his liberty to the mocking blackbird." Jean-Claude Drouot
