Amnesty International denounces the irresponsible arms trade that perpetuates multiple and massive human rights violations, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocides.
The situation in Syria and the massive transfer of arms from the Russian Federation to Syria is particularly shocking and highlights the urgency for nations to adopt a binding international treaty regulating the arms trade.
-To raise public awareness, we are organizing 2 events:
June 8, 2012, at 8:30 PM at the Amnesty International House
36 rue Gioffredo NICE: screening of the DVD “Arms, Trade and State Reason” followed by a debate
June 27, 2012, at 8:30 PM Mercury Cinema, Garibaldi Square NICE
screening of the film “Lord of War” followed by a debate
These films illustrate the consequences of a poorly regulated trade and the necessity to rally for the adoption of a major arms trade regulation treaty.
This goal is not utopian if we refer to the Oslo Treaty,
which prohibits the manufacture, sale, and use of Cluster Munitions (CM), anti-personnel mines, with signatories obliged to destroy any remaining stockpiles.
