On the night from Friday to Saturday, four youths, all minors, were attacked in downtown Nice because of their religion, according to a statement from the mayor of Nice.

Assaulted by a group of five individuals, one of them wearing a Star of David around his neck, they were victims of beatings and the theft of a gold chain.

The victims were rescued by the municipal police, the attackers identified and arrested. Currently, they are still in custody and interviews are ongoing.

According to initial findings, it seems that the incident can be attributed to a fight among young people under the influence of alcohol.

The Public Prosecutor Jean-Michel Prête refutes the antisemitic nature of this attack, “what emerges very clearly is that this fight has nothing to do with religion.”
