The commune of Blausasc is launching a subscription with the support of the Heritage Foundation and requests assistance to successfully complete its project.

The project:

The commune of Blausasc, a small village in the hinterland of Nice, is seeking help and support for an initiative: restoring its Notre Dame du Terron chapel and reinstating a missing bell tower.

Overlooking Blausasc, the chapel is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin, whose
pilgrimage takes place on September 8th. It straddles a rather steep valley and
boasts a miraculous spring where the sick come to drink and bathe.
It was built in 1642 on pre-existing foundations in the Castel neighborhood,
which were once possessions of the Grimaldi family of Monaco.
It collapsed and was rebuilt in 1703, and was consecrated again in 1927.

Did you know? Legend has it that the statue of the Virgin was stolen by
people from l’Escarรจne who placed it at la Condamine, and it returned
to its place at Terron the following night, leaving footprints on
the rocks.

The subscription is for a reconstruction, a rarity in heritage architecture.
Based on photographs from the time confirming its existence and under the supervision of the Architect of French Buildings, the commune aims to recreate the bell tower on the west faรงade identical to the one in the old photographs. Plans must also include stabilization of the building, underpinning of the foundations, and faรงade treatment.
