Of the six athletes in total, only two athletes from Maralpin were present on the different fields of the Paralympic Games today: Candyce Chafa and Élodie Lorandi. Here’s a look back at their results.
Para-Triathlon
The para-triathlon events, including the participation of the Nice-born athlete Geoffrey Wersy, scheduled for this Sunday, were postponed to Monday due to a deterioration in the water quality of the Seine. This postponement was announced by the organizing committee, following analyses conducted after the heavy rainfalls that hit the capital in recent days. Since Thursday, given the unfavorable weather forecasts, organizers had already made the decision to consolidate them into a single day, today. Despite this reorganization, the competitions were once again disrupted. Although two training sessions could take place on Thursday and Friday, a final session planned for Saturday was canceled as a precaution.
Para-Swimming
Élodie Lorandi, one of the five athletes who lit the Paralympic flame during the opening ceremony, failed to secure her spot in the final for the 100 m freestyle S10. At the La Défense Arena, the 35-year-old from Antibes, paralyzed in a nerve of her left leg, finished seventh in her heat with a time of 1’03″47. Despite her distinguished career, with a total of six Paralympic medals, Lorandi wasn’t able to compete with Canadian Aurélie Rivard, a triple Paralympic champion and world record holder, who dominated the heat with a time of 1’00″41.
Para-Rowing
In para-rowing, France shone this Sunday by winning a bronze medal in the PR3 category. The four-with-cox, composed of Grégoire Bireau, Margot Boulet, Candyce Chafa, Rémy Taranto, and led by coxswain Émilie Aquistapace, triumphed at the end of an exciting race. Neck and neck with Germany, the French team ultimately outpaced their rivals by just six hundredths of a second. This success continues the trend of strong French performances, as the same team had already secured bronze in Tokyo three years ago.
