Côte d’Azur Habitat is the public landlord of the Metropolis due to the Alur Law, which changed the scope of its activity (from municipal to metropolitan). 2017 was the first year of this transition.
This office constructs and manages more than 20,000 housing units. Nearly 500 staff members ensure its operation.
If we consider the impact of housing on family life and that more than 2/3 of households in Nice qualify for social housing, it is not difficult to understand the political significance of this entity, masterfully managed by Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, who is responsible for this role at the City of Nice and the Metropolis.
Forced to give up the presidency (“with great regret” – she admitted with a hint of bitterness) by the law prohibiting the accumulation of executive mandates at the national and local levels since she was elected senator, she handed over, a few weeks ago, her position to Philippe Pradal but did not leave the command bridge: as an administrator (and president of the allocation committee!!!), she remains the de facto “boss.”
This seems to please everyone, given her assignments in the Senate, which will be a useful link with national policies in the sector and where her expertise and involvement have already led her to take responsibility for legislative matters in this field.
Mrs. Estrosi-Sassone will soon be the LR rapporteur for the draft law from the ongoing “Consensus for Housing” conference, which will have to establish the future government policy in this economically important and socially delicate sector. Her competence and straightforward manner will surely make her one of the key players.
On the occasion of the New Year’s greetings with the staff, the general director, Mrs. Cathy Herbet, recalled some results of the activity at the end of 2017: 80 vacant housing units instead of 116 in the previous year; a decrease in unpaid bills.
She was thus able to express her satisfaction and thank her teams, even though – as she kindly reminded with a charming but firm voice: “we can always do better.”
