Assessment and Wishes of the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi
Subsequently, Christian Estrosi spoke to present his wishes and to provide an assessment of 2023.
He began his speech by acknowledging 2023, a culturally rich year. He recalled some important cultural events from 2023: the numerous exhibitions at the Matisse Museum, notably with the artist Ben from Nice. And a year of major gatherings at the Alliance Riviera with performances by Michèle Polnareff, Mylène Farmer, and The Weeknd.
Throughout the speech, the mayor paid tribute to public services and teachers, emphasizing the need to confront communalism and “the plague of wokism.” His motto: “United to stand together, it requires constant effort,” a year described as challenging, facing various issues: immigration, climate change, Storm Aline, rising prices, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict… “Facing these together means feeling concerned,” he reminded for the new year.
Christian Estrosi expresses confidence in this new government. He shares the same beliefs as the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, regarding school uniforms and secularism. With Catherine Vautrin, Minister of Health, he shares the project for the second phase of the Pasteur 2 hospital specializing in cardiology and intensive care. He also supports the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, criticizing the “sectarianism” shown by his major rival, Eric Ciotti, leader of the Republicans.
Christian Estrosi wishes that in 2024, with this new government, a law of decentralization and deconcentration will be implemented. “We can change things, we are neither unarmed nor powerless,” affirms the mayor.
