Although the ban on the slave trade only took effect in 1815 and especially in 1817 under Louis XVIII, slavery was definitively abolished in Paris, in a Government council, by the decree of Victor Schœlcher who decided on the abolition of slavery in France and its colonies on April 27, 1848.
As part of the ceremonies commemorating the abolition of slavery, the City of Nice, through the delegation for Francophonie and the Fight Against Discrimination, is organizing a day of awareness and information for young students and the general public at the Aimé Césaire School.
Mindful of the duty of remembrance, the City of Nice has been commemorating the abolition of slavery since 2011 by organizing meetings with students from the Aimé Césaire School. This year, Saint-Charles Primary School is also participating in this day.
Program:
9am/11:30am (students of Saint-Charles School) & 2pm/4:30pm (students of Aimé Césaire School): Musical performance (stories, songs, dances on the theme “Abolition of Slavery”) by Modibo from the Téné France association
