The Secretary of State for Transport has confirmed his agreement to launch a feasibility study, conducted by ESCOTA, regarding the connection of the western exit of the Mathis road to the A8 motorway.
This two-phase project involves extending the Mathis road in a covered trench, under the Grenoble road, to directly join the insertion ramp towards the Nice Centre interchange.
The connection of the Mathis road to the A8 motorway is part of a vast development and rehabilitation program for this emerging area (Grand Arénas, Multimodal Exchange Hub, West-East tram line, urban renovation of the Moulins district, Nice Méridia, 40-meter Road, etc.), with a particular focus on the growth of public transport and intermodality at the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis level.
Civil engineering works could begin in 2019.
The current Grinda exit will only be used for access to the airport or Paul Montel boulevard or as an escape route in the event of tunnel closure.
The second phase is planned to extend the covered trench structure up to the A8 Motorway.
