Reaction from Maître Jacques Peyrat following the death of Madame Geneviève Assémat Médecin
It is with immense sorrow that I learned of the passing of Madame Geneviève Assémat Médecin, who died in her 69th year.
The younger sister of Jacques Médecin, and one of his most steadfast supporters, she continued the illustrious actions of her family name.
Elected General Councillor of the 5th district following the resignation of Jacques Médecin on December 2, 1990, she was re-elected in this district of the 2nd constituency of Nice until 1998, continuing the Médecin family’s commitment to serving the people of Nice and to defending the work accomplished by her father Jean Médecin and her brother Jacques.
Highly beloved by the people of Nice, who were well aware of the strong familial bonds she shared with her brother and their mother Madame Amélie Médecin, Geneviève Assémat Médecin always demonstrated the utmost availability and kindness to all our fellow citizens.
She was attentive to the less fortunate, to individuals who were either single or elderly, to job seekers or those in need of housing, or those facing bureaucratic difficulties. Her joy was profound when an individual case was successful and thus a difficult situation initially found a harmonious solution.
Nice loses a woman of commitment and dedication to her fellow citizens, proud of her convictions, loyal to her values, to her family, and to her name that embodies the history of Nice.
I wish, along with the entire City Council of Nice, to express to her husband, her children, and all the members of Geneviève Assémat Médecin’s family our very sincerely saddened condolences.
Reaction from Christian Estrosi
“I learn with great sadness of the passing of Madame Geneviève ASSEMAT-MEDECIN.
Geneviève ASSEMAT-MEDECIN was a prominent figure in the life of Nice.
Geneviève ASSEMAT-MEDECIN particularly served as an elected official at the General Council where she first entered in 1990.
She remained there until 1998, particularly as a member of the Standing Committee.
She served her mandate with great skill and dedication, but she was also renowned for her substantial human qualities.
Madame Geneviève ASSEMAT-MEDECIN was a simple, open person, attentive to others regardless of their status.
She also defended the strong values of family and the identity of Nice, which were the main pillars of her life.
I was able to personally appreciate her humanism on a daily basis between 1990 and 1993, when we sat together at the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes.
I retain a moved memory of a warm person, appreciated by her colleagues for her courtesy and availability, which never failed her, and for her cheerful and smiling character, which gave her a true radiance within the departmental assembly.
To her husband Henri ASSEMAT and her children Marie-Françoise, Sophie, Véronique, and Bruno, I extend my most heartfelt and sincere condolences.”
