Emmanuel Macron outlines the situation in Ukraine and the consequences for France and Europe.

A week after the start of Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, Emmanuel Macron once again addressed the French people last night in a televised message, painting a grim picture of the situation in Ukraine.

“The balance of our continent has already been disrupted,” he also declared, presenting one of his objectives as “preventing the spread and expansion of the conflict as much as we can.”

“War in Europe no longer belongs to our history books or schoolbooks. It is here, right before our eyes,” observed Emmanuel Macron. “Democracy is no longer considered an undisputed regime. It is being challenged before our eyes. […] It is now more than ever a system of courage, a constant battle.”

And this crisis encourages the building of a “European defense,” he added, announcing that the European summit organized on March 10 and 11 in Versailles would be dedicated to this topic.

The war in Ukraine will have significant economic consequences. Emmanuel Macron reminded that he had tasked the Prime Minister with “developing an economic and social resilience plan for the coming days.”

The head of state, who has not yet officially declared his candidacy, assured that this campaign “will allow an important democratic debate for the nation but will not prevent us from coming together on the essentials.”

Are we sure that the other candidates are hearing it the right way?
