With 35% of the estimated votes for the UMP in Nice and the Alpes-Maritimes, the party led by Françoise Grossetête in the South-East region finished these European elections as victors. The UMP was also victorious across France with 28% of the votes.
The Socialist Party, carried by Vincent Peillon, significantly fell behind compared to the past European elections of 2004. However, the surprise came from Europe Ecology, which narrowly took the second place in the South-East region with 17% of the votes.
The MoDem party encountered an even more difficult setback with only 8.5% of the votes in France. These European elections did not deviate from the high rate of abstentions, with only 40% voter turnout in France.
In the Alpes-Maritimes, it is Gaston Franco who will represent the locals. The advisor in charge of sustainable development for the city of Nice and UMP mayor of Saint-Martin-Vésubie will be the only elected representative from our department to sit in the European Parliament. He will particularly defend the case for the Union for the Mediterranean.
