The only inequality highlighted by this project concerns the majority case of those who hold only French nationality and are thus protected from such revocation.
However, if the international conventions inherited from the 20th century prohibit us from creating stateless individuals, are we not entitled to question the obsolescence of this principle?
Is a terrorist who possesses only one nationality more acceptable or less guilty than a dual national?
Can a man who decides to join the ranks of the so-called “Islamic State” and take up arms against France still reasonably claim to be French?
Let us hope that this position is henceforth adopted by many elected officialsโbeyond any partisan affiliationโand becomes part of a forthcoming constitutional law project.
I do not see on what principle or value the Left, which enshrined the revocation of nationality for all slave traders in 1848, would oppose today’s revocation for murderous terrorists…
