The Wajiz association occupied premises under non-regulatory conditions on Avenue St Joseph in Nice. Indeed, this space, transformed into a prayer room, did not meet all safety requirements for public reception. The managing association had received several unfavorable notices from the City Safety Commission without following up on them.

Residents of Avenue Saint-Joseph in Nice had contacted the City Hall regarding the nuisances suffered due to the use of a room (a former garage) as a place of worship in non-regulatory conditions.

The managing association had received several unfavorable notices from the City Safety Commission without following up on them. The City Council then voted on July 25, 2012, for a Declaration of Public Utility, allowing the transformation of this 140m² space into a municipal police station.

With the closure of the prayer room, the transformation process can begin to the great satisfaction of the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi:

“While I am committed to ensuring that everyone can practice their religion with dignity, I will always oppose the use of a room transformed without any authorization into a place of worship, in non-regulatory conditions and detrimental to the safety of the believers and the tranquility of the neighborhood residents. That is why I welcome the closure of this premises.”
