The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, is visiting Nice for the second time in 10 days.
An unexpected visit, most likely in response to recent incidents that have disrupted the peace of Nice’s residents.
This afternoon, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, returns to Nice. An unscheduled visit linked to the shootout that broke out earlier this week (Monday, July 20th around 9:30) in the Moulins neighborhood.
Following the unacceptable incidents that occurred yesterday, I am going to #Nice to assess the situation with the various state services and associations on site.
These acts of violence are intolerable.
The Republic is at home everywhere.— Gérald DARMANIN (@GDarmanin) July 23, 2020
For this second act, the minister is expected to visit this sensitive neighborhood to assess the situation.
This visit also echoes the repeated requests from Christian Estrosi, who is calling for more resources to combat the various illegal activities affecting certain areas of the city.
Following new gunfire heard this morning at 9:30 in the Moulins neighborhood in #Nice06, I demand an immediate action plan to restore order in the neighborhoods under republican reclamation.

While we are short 100 national police officers, I am once again requesting additional resources. If the State is no longer capable of providing the necessary means, it should allow Mayors who wish to do so to act more forcefully.
