The health situation surrounding hantavirus continues to mobilize authorities following the isolation of several contact cases, including a resident of Juan-les-Pins. In Nice, the investigation into the Moulins shooting is progressing with the arrest of four suspects, including the alleged shooter. At the same time, the city of Nice and OGC Nice announce the deployment of 15 buses to allow Nice supporters to attend the French Cup final against RC Lens.

Hantavirus: The Côte d’Azur resident and contact cases tested negative but kept in quarantine

Placed in isolation in Marseille on Tuesday, May 12, a Juan-les-Pins resident has tested negative for hantavirus. French health authorities confirmed on Thursday that 26 people identified as contact cases on national territory also presented negative results.

Health Minister Stéphanie Rist stated: “today, all contact cases with a person positive for hantavirus, present in France, have all tested negative, without exception.”

The health measures remain in place nonetheless. The persons concerned remain hospitalized as a precaution for at least two weeks. No symptoms have been reported among the contact cases monitored by health authorities.

The alert had been triggered following a notification from the World Health Organization concerning a hantavirus epidemic, Andes strain, identified aboard the ship MV Hondius. A person repatriated to France tested positive and remains in intensive care in serious condition.

French authorities adopted a protocol similar to that applied for meningitis to identify contact cases. The Health Ministry clarifies that a person is considered a contact case if there is proximity of less than two meters for more than fifteen minutes in the ten days preceding a positive test.

Moulins shooting: Four people arrested, including the alleged shooter

The investigation into the shooting that occurred on Monday, May 11 in the Moulins district in Nice has led to the arrest of four people. Among the suspects is the alleged shooter, according to information provided by the Marseille prosecutor’s office.

The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture announced: “as part of the investigation into the shooting that killed two and wounded six on Monday, May 11 in Nice in the Moulins district, 4 people were arrested last night, including the alleged shooter.”

The four suspects were placed in custody and made available to the judicial system. The investigation is being conducted by the inter-regional specialized court in Marseille.

The shooting had occurred in broad daylight on a shopping plaza in the district. A man arriving on a scooter had opened fire on a group in front of a café and a candy store. Two men lost their lives: Ahmed, 57, and Adilson, a 39-year-old football coach. Six other people were wounded, three of them seriously. The wounded victims are now out of danger.

The prosecutor’s office mentions violence linked to drug trafficking. The Moulins district had already been marked by several settling of scores in recent months, notably a fatal shooting in October 2025 and the arson of a building in July 2024.

French Cup Final: 15 buses announced for OGC Nice supporters

Following the cancellation of a train with 1,000 seats initially planned for Nice supporters’ travel, the city of Nice and OGC Nice have announced the deployment of 15 buses to the Stade de France for the French Cup final against RC Lens, on May 22.

Twelve buses will be reserved for La Populaire Sud subscribers. Three others will be accessible to other supporters. In total, 600 seats will be offered at 120 euros for the round trip thanks to partial support from the municipality and the club.

In a joint statement, Éric Ciotti, Jean-Pierre Rivère and Maurice Cohen explain wanting to “allow the people of Nice to support their beloved club on May 22.”

La Populaire Sud had denounced on Wednesday the cancellation of the train, which according to the group was due to a guarantee deemed too high by the travel agency solicited by the SNCF.

Despite transport difficulties, supporter mobilization remains strong. The club has already sold 13,500 seats out of 19,600 reserved for Nice supporters for this French Cup final.
