Nice, a city of the Mediterranean, a city of Europe, is a City of Art. The many prestigious creators who have lived in Nice have left a lasting impact on the history and landscape of the city.
As Nice aspires to become the European capital of culture and give a prominent place to contemporary artists (tramway routes adorned with artworks, creation of the Jean Nouvel Foundation at Mont Boron, etc.), numerous criticisms are nevertheless being voiced. Some, for instance, regret that these new directions might “betray” the identity and specificity of Nice.
Yet, as we stand at the dawn of the 21st century, aren’t these choices a means to evolve the cityโs image, distinguish it on an international level, and make it a favored destination for new travelers? Is the future of Nice rooted in Art?
Speakers concerned with the topic will come to express their views: Mrs. Anne Stephant, Marketing Director of the Nice Opera, Mr. Andrรฉ Barthe, Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of culture, Mr. Alain Derey, Director of Villa Arson, Mr. Thierry Martin, Director of cultural affairs at the Nice city hall, Mr. Olivier-Henri Sambucchi, Director of cultural and tourist development at CANCA, Mr. Guillaume Aral, Director of the Ferrero gallery, Mr. Yann Claeysen, Sales Director at the Tourist Office.
The floor will also be given to artists and economic players involved in the artistic field, including among others Mr. Patrick Moya, Artist, Mr. Philippe Genin, Urban architect, and Mrs. Gรฉraldine Soardi, Manager of the Soardi gallery.
The debate will be moderated by Dominique Antoni, President of the Mediterranean Press Club 06 and Director of France Bleu Azur, and by Paul Barelli, Independent Journalist, Vice-President of the Mediterranean Press Club 06.
