Every year, the City of Nice lights up the summer evenings with its outdoor cinema screenings. The 2024 edition was a true success. From June 7 to September 2, no fewer than 31 screenings delighted numerous cinema enthusiasts.

The result is more than satisfactory for the outdoor cinema. The screenings by the Cinémathèque de Nice experienced a resounding success. Broadcast every Wednesday from June 7 to September 2 at the Quai de la Douane, the 7 screenings captivated 3,500 lovers of classic and contemporary films.

Meanwhile, the neighborhoods of Nice also resonated with the rhythm of cinema thanks to the Department of Animation and Community Life. The 18 screenings organized attracted 2,000 spectators.

In July, the association “Il était un truc” shone with its “Écran Total” sessions. The 5 screenings offered gathered more than 1,500 spectators, confirming the enthusiasm for these summer events.

A summer rich in cinematic discoveries

Spectators had the opportunity to discover or rediscover an eclectic program. It included classics such as The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan by Martin Bourboulon and Le Dîner de cons by Francis Veber. More recent films were also on the program, such as Super Mario Bros, The Battle of the Rails by René Clément, The Hunchback by Philippe de Broca, Sing by Garth Jennings, and many others. A diversity that satisfied all tastes and generations.

To end on a high note, the Cinémathèque de Nice concluded the summer season on Tuesday, September 2 at the Quai de la Douane with a special evening. This event marked the opening of the 15th edition of the Crossover Festival and featured an outdoor screening of the musical film Sound of Noise by Ola Simonsson and Johannes Stjärne Nilsson. More than 500 spectators participated in this evening.

A promising cinema new season

The new season of the Cinémathèque de Nice will start on Wednesday, September 18 at 5:45 PM with C.R.A.Z.Y by Jean-Marc Vallée. At 8 PM, Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo will be screened in a restored version for its national re-release. The new season will be rich and varied: it will combine heritage films and recent works. It will also be punctuated by meetings with professionals, masterclasses led by renowned filmmakers, and retrospectives.
