Good find! And to see for yourself, you’ll need to be there on January 14 and 15 at the Théâtre du Cours in Old Nice, where Romano Vivarelli will perform his Cartoon-Up.

In the Vivarelli family, we knew the dad whom we would go see boxing at the Leyrit hall in Saint Roch, but now we also have to count on the son who will take the stage for the first time at the Théâtre du Cours, in the city where he was born. The new comedian from Nice talks to Nice Premium just days before his first show in his hometown.

So Romano…?

cartoon_up.jpg Nice Premium: What does it feel like to perform a Cartoon at home, here in Nice?

Romano Vivarelli: I love performing in my city! I performed there in October for the Fourres de Rire, but this will truly be my first solo shows in Nice! I perform regularly in Paris and it does me good to come back and perform at home for the people of Nice and for my sea! (okay, I admit it’s not just mine…)

NP: If you had to define your show, you would say…?

RV: My show is called “Cartoon-Up,” it’s a clever mix between Cartoon and Stand-Up, because it’s both visual and spoken. I am on stage myself, that is to say completely wild and spontaneous! There are sound effects, mime, lots of improvisation and interaction with the audience, a cartoony universe and good vibes! Each performance has its share of surprises and new things!

NP: What made you decide to take to the stage?

RV: I’ve always done theater as an amateur since middle school when we performed a play, then in high school and in café-theater groups for end-of-year performances. After a brief stint in Paris where I write my first sketches and perform my first open mic shows, I meet Anthony Joubert who will later give me the opportunity to do his opening acts. I then go back to Paris to perform and write my show which I’ve been performing since the end of March.
The stage is one of the rare places where I feel good, I understood late that I could maybe make it my profession.

NP: Where and what time do we need to be to see you on stage?

RV: I will perform Cartoon-Up at the Théâtre du Cours in Old Nice (18 rue de la barillerie), on Tuesday, January 14 and Wednesday, January 15 at 8:30 PM!
Reservations can be made on Billetreduc.com or by phone at 04 93 80 12 67

NP: Is it true that it’s more difficult to be a comedian in Nice than in the greater suburbs, that is to say Paris?

RV: I think it’s more difficult to perform and make a name for yourself in Paris, because there are many more comedians and the Parisian audience is perhaps more difficult to convince given that supply exceeds demand. You have to stand out to fill your room and hold your ground!

NP: A dad in the ring and his son on stage… different paths but the same desire to make people dream?

RV: Ha ha definitely yes! We could say the end goal is the same but I didn’t choose to hit people 😉 Doing what we love above all and sharing! I’ll try to thrill crowds as much as he does and there, there’s still work to do…

NP: And finally, you will be happy on Tuesday, January 14 in the evening if…?

RV: If my audience is happy leaving the room,
If Wednesday is also sold out,
If the walls crack from laughing so hard,
If there’s a pan bagnat waiting for me in my dressing room,
If you who are reading these lines, you find yourself in the audience

If it’s not the spotlights that will illuminate me, but the radiance of smiles from everyone! (Wow but that’s beautiful, isn’t it!?)
