“In France, progress is based on seniority, and I’m impatient…”

Nice Premium: Introduce us to the company you work for and your role within it.

Vladimir Gasic: Sport5 is the European leader in sports marketing. The company generates more than half of its revenue from football TV rights, and the rest from football club marketing. I have been the sales director for motorsport activities for a year, mainly focusing on the sale of World Rally Championship rights. I keep track of sales, define strategies, and manage a dozen salespeople.

NP: What has been your professional journey since you finished school?

VG: I worked as a lawyer, then a producer of advertising clips, a TV rights seller in France, Spain, Sweden, England, and now in Hamburg, Germany.

NP: Have you always wanted to work in this field, or was it the result of opportunities?

VG: It’s the result of opportunities. At university, I didn’t even know this type of job existed.

NP: What is your academic background, and what degree(s) have you obtained?

VG: I completed a DEA in public law and supplemented my training by doing a DESS in private law.

NP: What is the perception of students from your former school in the professional field where you work?

VG: Very positive, we have a reputation for being hard workers and rigorous people.

NP: What advice would you give to students considering a career in your sector? In your opinion, is it better to start with SMEs or large companies?

VG: The first advice I would give to a beginner is to be curious and try everything (jobs, companies…), especially at the beginning of one’s career. After a few years, one knows what they want. It is true that there are two possibilities:
The first is to start with a large group to learn the trade under good conditions, learn a proven working method with people who have a network and in good conditions regarding the sustainability of the activity. The second possibility: start in a new activity and be the first to handle it. It’s the best way to progress quickly and make a name for yourself if it succeeds. However, it requires a lot of work and not being afraid to take initiatives. The best would be to combine these two approaches: launch a new activity within a large group.

NP: Why did you choose to work at a local/international level?

VG: In France, progress is based on seniority, and I’m impatient…

NP: What are your current career prospects and professional aspirations?

VG: I plan to launch my own company…

NP: What are the specifics of your sector?

VG: There is a lot of creativity in this sector. However, there’s little clarity about the future, with many acquisitions happening right now, but at the same time, it depends so much on companies and countries.
