Latest News

July 14th is an occasion for festivities with popular success. In Nice, it is also a day of remembrance for the July 14, 2016 attack, which resulted in 86 deaths and over 400 injuries.

The program includes, in the morning, a ceremony in honor of the victims in the Gardens of the Villa Massรฉna, where the memorial is located, followed in the afternoon by the traditional military parade, and in the evening a classical music concert and a light show, also to remember the victims.

The fireworks were held last night and the popular dance is no longer in vogue.

The National Holiday on July 14th was established by the Raspail Law on July 6, 1880, to commemorate the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, symbolizing the end of absolute monarchy, as well as the Fรชte de la Fรฉdรฉration of 1790, symbolizing the unity of the Nation.

The law does not specify which event is commemorated: โ€œThe Republic adopts July 14th as the annual national holidayโ€ (single article).
