Last day to convert your francs!

Latest News

You have until this afternoon, 3:30 PM, to exchange your old francs for euros at the Banque de France offices in Nice and Cannes. After this deadline, your bills will no longer have any value.

It’s time for nostalgics to officially say goodbye to the famous francs. Indeed, after the definitive disappearance of coins in 2005, you have until this afternoon, 3:30 PM, to exchange your last bundles of bills for euros, lest they become mere worthless pieces of paper (including for collectors).

In total, it’s estimated that nearly 500 million euros are lost in circulation or still well-hidden under mattresses… 500 million euros that the Banque de France will have to transfer to the State, even if it has not managed to recover them. In other words, quite a jackpot.

The Banque de France offices in Nice and Cannes are open

For the ultimate procrastinators who wish to exchange their old currency, the Banque de France in Nice and Cannes are at your disposal. The one in Nice is located at 14 Avenue Fรฉlix-Faure, and the one in Cannes at 39 Rue de Suisse. Note, however, that this only concerns the last series of francs, namely the 500 francs Curie, the 200 francs Eiffel, the 100 francs Cรฉzanne, the 50 francs Saint-Exupรฉry, and the 20 francs Debussy.

Ten years to the day since our habits changed. On February 17, 2002, France, along with most of Europe, said goodbye to their national currency to switch to the Euro. A single currency that remains much criticized, even a decade later.
