After phases 1 and 2 of the beautification and security works of the Promenade des Anglais, covering the Ponchettes–Lenval section and completed on July 14, 2017, the construction will continue on the section between Lenval and Carras, to the west of the Promenade.
Like the previous sections, this 1.6-kilometer stretch will receive the same comprehensive treatment as the rest of the Promenade des Anglais, in order to create an effective and hermetic protection, preventing any vehicle intrusion onto the south sidewalk: installation of a double railing (composed of steel cables supported by posts) and fixed, retractable, or removable bollards (anti-ram).
The duration of the work will be 9 to 10 months, with a cost of 10.5 million euros. In total, for the 3 phases, nearly 30 million will have been spent, financed by the City, the Metropolis, and, to the tune of 5 million, by the European Union as part of a call for projects for the securing of public spaces under the responsibility of Commissioner Julian King, who was present at the launch of this project.
As one cherry leads to another, Commissioner King confirmed that Nice has been chosen to coordinate the future European partnership on urban security as part of the EU Urban Agenda.
For the record, Nice is also the French candidate to host the European center of expertise for terrorism victims.
A government decision that Christian Estrosi wanted to highlight: “It is a wonderful recognition for the work we have accomplished here in this area.”
