To the rhythm of the music, distorted characters come to life around the lake: horse riding, games, camping… The shapes intertwine, the images unfold. The spectators are surprised but curious to discover this excerpt from “By the Lake” by Patrick Bokanowski. “This short film demonstrates the perspectives we are embracing this year. We chose the power of art over that of animation,” announced Marianne K. Romeo, film programmer.
From November 12 to 25, 2008, the Magnan space will be adorned with the colors of Europe. Based on specific themes, European films will cross their borders to enrich the culture of the people of Nice. Filmmakers will engage with the audience to satisfy their curiosity. A discovery session, “Cinema in All Its Forms”, will be offered from March 23 to 30, 2009. Marianne K. Romeo explains this choice: “These sessions allow us to see things we are not accustomed to and to discover new authors.”
Diversity will also be at the heart of the live performance program. Reading sessions, ballets, plays, and a guitar festival… Everyone will find something to enjoy! “We have chosen a quality program that satisfies as many people as possible,” assured Joël Bayen-Sauneres, live performance programmer. From emerging talents to seasoned performers, all will have their place on stage. For example, the Uzume Theatre company will showcase students from the theater section of the University of Nice.
New Activities Offered
As part of the 10th Sept Off, the Magnan space exhibits starting from September 17, photographs of young Malians, signed by Philippe Koudjina. For a month, this exhibition will introduce the public to new horizons. In the same spirit, new activities will be offered such as magic, hip-hop, Puerto Rican salsa… A call to all enthusiasts!
“It’s the joy of a promising season,” exclaimed the new director, Isabelle Spitz. Let’s remember that the Magnan space offers 60 disciplines taught by a team of instructors, 2000 members, educational and pedagogical actions, and a cultural program. An initiative that entertains all kinds of audiences and brings joy and happiness to the hearts of both young and old!
