Manca Festival: The Green Ray

Latest News

For its 34th edition, the MANCA festival is themed around the green flash. This rare and ephemeral optical phenomenon, observed before sunrise or sunset, aptly symbolizes the spirit of this musical event, where music is often presented to the public for the first time.

rayon_vert.jpg The National Center for Musical Creation, CIRM, is one of the main presenters of this festival. Young resident authors compose their works here. This year, there will be two world premieres: SOMMERWIND by Fuminori Tanada for ensemble and electronics, and SYMÉTRIADESS by Yann Robin for double bass and electronics.

The program is very eclectic, featuring video concerts, operas, ballets, concerts, electroacoustic music, and contemporary dance. Music is expressed here in both classical and modern forms.

The public is invited from November 19 to December 1 at various locations in Nice, including the Saint François de Paule church for the opening conference. Each day, the festival will host events at different venues such as the Opera, National Theatre of Nice, Theatre of Photography and Image, Villa Arson, National Regional Conservatory, Nucéra Library, and in the Principality of Monaco at the Casino Atrium, Variétés Theatre, and Rainier III Auditorium.

No fewer than 31 composers from 10 different nationalities make up this rich 2013 program.
Some events are free, while others require tickets. There is something for all budgets.

Since its inception, the MANCA festival has been the must-attend event for music lovers, musical creation, and its influence extends beyond this green flash. While the optical phenomenon is too fleeting, the MANCA serves as a platform for young creators, an opportunity to reach the general public through world premieres, concerts, or performances. This is the true appeal of the festival.
