Monaco prepares the 2027 Small States of Europe Games with the nine participating nations

Gathered in the Principality, the representatives of the nine National Olympic Committees have validated several decisions for the 2027 Games of the Small States of Europe. The new competition dates have been officially announced and golf has been added to the sports program.

The Principality of Monaco hosted for two days the General Assembly and the Technical Commission meeting of the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSEE). This meeting marks a new step in the preparation of the 21st edition of the Games, scheduled for 2027 in the Principality.

The presidents and secretaries general of the nine National Olympic Committees members were gathered in Monaco. The delegations represented Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and San Marino. The exchanges made it possible to continue preparatory work and validate several points related to the organization of the multisport event.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco shared a moment with all the representatives of the nine participating countries. This meeting recalled the Principality’s commitment to the values of friendship and cooperation championed by the Games.

Among the decisions adopted, the General Assembly officially confirmed the new dates for the 2027 Monaco Games of the Small States of Europe. The competition will take place from May 17 to 23, 2027. Members also unanimously approved the inclusion of golf in the sports program. The latter already includes athletics, judo, swimming, tennis, table tennis, shooting and volleyball or basketball. Other sports are sometimes on the program such as golf which will be included in this edition, as well as gymnastics, mountain biking, squash, beach volleyball, sailing, taekwondo or boules lyonnaises.

Yvette Lambin Berti: “a sporting family”

In her opening address, Yvette Lambin Berti, secretary general of the Monegasque Olympic Committee, stated: “through the association of our nine countries, we form a sporting family and, together, we demonstrate that the size of a state is in no way a hindrance to ambition, excellence or international influence.”

The secretary general also spoke about the organization of the 2027 edition: “we are one year away from the 21st Games of the Small States of Europe which we have the honor of hosting in 2027. This deadline is already fully mobilizing our teams, with a clear objective: to organize an event that unites and carries a lasting legacy.”

The Technical Commission delegates also visited the future competition venues. This visit made it possible to discover the sports facilities and the arrangements planned to welcome athletes and delegations.

Monaco wants to carry on the Games’ legacy

During the exchanges, Yvette Lambin Berti referred back to the previous editions organized in the Principality, in 1987 and 2007. “Twenty years later, this shows that the future demands it of us! Rest assured that we will do everything in our power to offer your delegations quality hospitality and conditions worthy of their ambitions”, said the secretary general.

The institutional and human significance of the Games was also highlighted. “These Games are a strong symbol of mutual aid and sharing. They also constitute an opportunity to strengthen our common commitments”, added Yvette Lambin Berti.

For the third time in its history, Monaco will host the Games of the Small States of Europe. The 2027 edition will bring together participating nations, athletes and the public around a multisport event organized in the Principality.
