Grégory, 23 years old, a psychology student, believes, like 31% of the people in Nice, that security should be a priority. “Just a few months ago, I lived in St Roch. It is certainly not one of the most sensitive areas, but still, there are some problems remaining. That is why it is necessary to reinforce the police force so that the neighborhood can be safer.”
Marie-Chantal, 53 years old, a bank employee, expects the future mayor to put more effort into improving the quality of life in the city. “Everything is expensive in Nice. Food, apartments. Even though I work at a bank, I really struggle to make ends meet. Ends of the month are often difficult, mostly because of the charges and taxes, which are way too high. What I expect from the mayor is, of course, that he does what’s necessary to lower the taxes.”
Oscar, 47 years old, a tobacconist, is like 18% of the future voters. He wishes for improvements in public transportation. “What should be done is to address the daily concerns of the people of Nice rather than those of the tourists. Not every area of Nice is equally served. I know that the County Council has made efforts to get new buses and renovate stops (to make them accessible for the disabled). In short, I think there are still efforts to be made. Also, just one more thing: lower the price of public transport (high fares encourage fare evasion).”
Lisa, 22 years old, job seeker, hopes that the city of Nice will develop a real network for job seekers. “The Cyber employment center, where I regularly go, is underutilized while it could be a convergence point between job seekers and recruiting companies. Similarly, a website on employment in Nice would be welcome to centralize the offers, information, and advice for the unemployed in Nice and the Azure coast.”
